Vår Energi - Consent for Removal of Jotun A
Wednesday 13 November 2019
Vår Energi has received consent from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to remove the Jotun A facility from the Jotun field in order to be upgraded.
Jotun
The Jotun field is in the central North Sea, 25 kilometres north of Balder. Jotun was proved in 1994 and the PDO (plan for development and operation) was approved in 1997. Production began in 1999.
The field has been developed using Jotun A, a combined production and storage vessel (FPSO), and a wellhead facility, Jotun B.
Production from the field ceased in 2016 because operation was no longer profitable. According to the formal removal resolution, Jotun B has to be removed by the end of 2020. Jotun A will continue operation for the Balder and Ringhorne Øst fields until cessation of production from these fields. Jotun A has to be removed by the end of 2023.
