Walk to Work Ship called Kasteelborg

Friday 2 November 2018

In Den Helder, on October 25, 2018, Marjan van Loon, CEO Shell Nederland, christened the ship Kasteelborg. It is the second Walk to Work vessel in the fleet of Wagenborg Offshore and is used by NAM and Shell UK.

After the christening, both Marjan van Loon and Johan Atema (director NAM) and Egbert Vuursteen (CEO Royal Wagenborg) gave a speech. The Walk to Work Emergency Response and Rescue As a standby and support vessel, Vessel Kasteelborg will be servicing the unmanned platforms on the southern North Sea, together with the Kroonborg that was commissioned almost three years ago. Unlike a manned platform where employees go by helicopter, the employees stay on the ship and go to work on the platform via a walkway. NAM and Shell UK signed a six-year agreement with Wagenborg Offshore on the Kasteelborg.

Activities

Kasteelborg is mainly used for emergency work and interventions, such as starting up installations and performing minor corrective maintenance. This way the Kroonborg can concentrate on the larger planned maintenance campaigns. Both ships operate from Den Helder.

Future

With the arrival of Kasteelborg, NAM and Shell UK can further simplify their platforms, make them more sustainable and give them new functions. In the North Sea, old and new forms of energy go hand in hand with this. NAM, Shell and Wagenborg are joining that future together.

The Royal Dutch Rescue Society (KNRM) was also represented. Marjan van Loon kindly thanked for a gift after baptism. Instead, the KNRM received a donation on behalf of Wagenborg and NAM. An appropriate destination, given the joint link to safety at sea.
