UTEC Geomarine Brings Specialist Geotechnical Equipment to Asia Pacific

Friday 12 October 2018

UTEC Geomarine, a specialist geotechnical site investigation and engineering design consultancy service within UTEC, an Acteon company, has recently relocated a suite of geotechnical equipment to Australia, from the UK, to meet demand from the company’s offices located in Perth, Singapore and Jakarta.

The equipment, which includes a 75-kN ROSON cone penetrometer tester (CPT), UTEC Geomarine’s patented geoROV CPT system, a piston corer capable of cores up to 9 m, a vibrocorer capable of cores up to 6 m and laboratory equipment for offshore testing and analysis of geotechnical samples, will be based in Australia to enable rapid mobilisation in the region.

The 75-kN ROSON CPT was recently used to acquire data at 29 locations at depths to 30 m below the seabed in water depths of more than 1000 m and on slopes of up to 18° for a project in Western Australia. The data will be used in engineering studies for future oilfield development.

As well as in-situ collection of geophysical and geotechnical data, UTEC Geomarine’s desk-based engineering consultancy covers the entire project life cycle, including expert engineering feasibility studies, ground modelling, design, hazard analysis and risk-controlled recommendations to deliver optimal seabed foundation, trenching, burial and structural penetration analysis.
