OEG Lands Modular VSD Contract for BHGE
Thursday 12 July 2018
Leading offshore container and A60 module company OEG Offshore (OEG) has been awarded a high-specification contract for the design, manufacture and supply of a bespoke A0 fire rated Zone 2 blast rated Variable Speed Drive (VSD) control module for Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE).
The overall module will be designed and manufactured to comply with NORSOK standards and OEG will be contracting with DNV GL as part of the scope who will verify the overall design for installation on Point Resources’ Ringhorne platform, located in the North Sea, on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
The module will be designed in four individual modular sections due to the restriction in lift capacity of the platform crane. The four modules will be installed onto a new cantilever deck offshore and interconnected as a single module. Hook-up of essential systems will take place such as Air Conditioning Units (ACUs), pressurisation systems, fire & gas and the Variable Speed Drives will be fully integrated.
OEG’s experienced project team in Aberdeen, Scotland will fully outfit the control module and pre-test all systems prior to dismantling and packaging up the separate modules for delivery. OEG will provide technical offshore personnel to assist with the installation, re-assembly, hook-up and commissioning of the module later in the year. The module is part of a larger project scope of seven new VSDs being installed on the platform.
The completed Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) VSD control module will be over 15 metres long with 128kW of cooling installed on the roof to control the heat generated from the VSDs. The module scope also incorporates managing the integration of module systems with the platform systems to ensure a smooth and quicker hook-up and interface offshore.
