Discovery Southwest of Njord

Thursday 17 September 2015

VNG Norge has made an oil discovery in wildcat well 6406/12-4 S, drilled approx. 33 kilometres southwest of the Njord field, near the Pil discovery.

"We have discovered what could be additional resources to last year's Pil-discovery and confirmed that there are hydrocarbon-filled sands east of the Pil-discovery", says Atle Sonesen, Managing Director.

"The new information will help reduce the uncertainty span in the resource estimates for the Pil-discovery, but it is too early to make conclusions. We have collected much information that indicates and confirms that there is potential, but the area is complex and requires more wells and persistence to fully understand this potential. This license contains many prospects, and also several segments within the Boomerang prospect. One of our goals with this drilling campaign has been to test as many Boomerang segments as possible in order to avoid overlooking potential economical resources."

So far the drilling operations have been successful, according to schedule with no incidents.

Preliminary estimates of the size of the discovery range between two and five million standard cubic metres (Sm3) of recoverable oil equivalent. The licensees will consider the discovery in conjunction with other nearby discoveries as regards a possible future development.

A second wildcat well, 6406/12-4 A, is also being completed, and is classified as dry.

These are the fourth and fifth wells to be drilled in production licence 586, which was awarded in APA 2010.
