First Oil at Ophir

First oil has begun flowing at the Ophir field development off the coast of Malaysia.

Field partner Octanex revealed Friday the milestone had been reached after 20 consecutive days of production at the field.

Production at the field started 20 October but first oil was contractually defined as 20 days production from a consecutive 25 days.

Octanex said output during the start-up period had been constrained to a maximum of 3000 barrels of oil per day, adding de-bottle necking phase of commissioning is now under way.

It expects the first lifting of oil from the field to occur next month.

The Ophir oilfield lies in roughly 70 metres of water has been developed via three production wells, a wellhead platform and floating production, storage and offloading vessel.

The field is being developed under a risk services contract which was granted in 2014 by Malaysian state-run oil company Petronas.

Octanex holds a 50% interest in the Ophir joint venture and is partnered by Malaysia’s Scomi Energy on 30% and Petronas subsidiary Vestigo Petroleum on 20%.
