Schlumberger Hooks Leviathan Contract

Monday 24 July 2017

Oilfield services giant Schlumberger has won a contract to provide the measurement and control system for the deep-water Leviathan field development project offshore Israel.

According to Schlumberger's second-quarter results, the valves and measurement system will include two large, multirun metering skids, Caldon gas and liquid ultrasonic custody transfer meters, a bi-directional prover, and a building to house multiple natural gas component analyzers and supervisory control systems.

The value of the contract awarded by Leviathan operator Noble Energy was not disclosed.

The award was one of several new contracts Schlumberger disclosed in its quarterly earnings release.

In Oman, Petrogas Kahil awarded Schlumberger an integrated drilling services contract for one year valued at $20 million to drill three exploration wells in Block 55. Schlumberger will provide a number of technologies, including its AxeBlade ridged diamond element bits, PowerV vertical drilling rotary steerable systems, and SoliDrill modular compact wellhead systems. Operations on the first well began in the second quarter.

Schlumberger also won a drilling contract for two offshore exploration wells with a six-month optional extension by the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco). The contract includes products and services from the reservoir characterization, drilling, production, and Cameron groups. Technologies to be provided include Schlumberger's PowerDrive vorteX powered rotary steerable system, GeoFlex quantitative cuttings analysis and imaging service, FlexStim modular offshore stimulation system, and Certis high-integrity reservoir test isolation system. Operations began in the first quarter.

The company's drilling group also won a three-year contract with Russia's Lukoil to drill 139 wells in Western Siberia. The scope of work covers drilling, equipment, completions, and software.

Also in Russia, the company's software integrated solutions group entered a technology partnership with the Gazpromneft Scientific Technology Centre. Under the terms of the agreement, Schlumberger will provide software enabling "discipline experts to collaborate and make the best possible decisions from exploration to production," according to a release. The software provides a standard 3D-modeling process that provides a 90% time saving compared with a conventional workflow, Schlumberger said.

In Vietnam, the company's reservoir characterisation group won five contracts from Idemitsu, which "successfully drilled an exploration well significantly under budget" according to the release.

The company also noted that its OneSubsea unit and partner Helix Energy Solutions have received an expression of interest for the rental of their jointly developed 15,000 psi intervention riser system, starting in the fourth quarter of 2017. The system will be the first of its kind available on a rental basis to address the growing intervention needs of high-pressure subsea wells, Schlumberger said.

In addition, the company has received orders for four of the deep-water managed pressure drilling (MPD) systems developed by Cameron Drilling Systems and M-I Swaco. The first was delivered in May and the other three are to be delivered later this year.

Schlumberger reported a loss of $74 million for the quarter, compared to a loss of $2.1 billion in the second quarter last year. The group’s revenues increased 4% year-on-year to $7.4 billion compared to $7.1 billion.
