STX France Starts Building Arkona Offshore Substation
Wednesday 12 July 2017
STX France AS has held a ceremony at the Saint Nazaire shipyard to mark the start of the construction works on the Arkona offshore substation.
STX France won the contract to design, build and install a HVAC offshore substation for the 385MW Arkona offshore wind farm in April 2016.
The company will perform the EPCI contract for the jacket foundation, the piles, and the substation topside. The contract includes a one year maintenance period, following the substation’s delivery in 2018.
Schneider Electric will provide the full electrical package and ABB will supply the electrical transformers for the substation.
Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) will be in charge of the transport and installation operations.
EUR 1.2 billion Arkona project is equally owned by E.ON and Statoil. E.ON is also in charge of building and subsequent operation of the wind farm.
Arkona is situated in the German part of the Baltic Sea and will comprise 60 6MW Siemens turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2019.
The Arkona substation will collect the power generated by the wind farm’s turbines and transfer it to 50Hertz’s onshore substation in Lubmin via the 93-kilometre Ostwind 1 cable system.
