Sandvik Wins Umbilicals Contract for Leviathan Gas Project

Thursday 13 April 2017

Sandvik has secured the contract to be the sole provider of stainless steel tubes in the umbilicals for the Leviathan gas field in the Mediterranean Sea, offshore Israel.

The umbilicals for Leviathan will be made from Sandvik SAF 2507™ super-duplex stainless steel tubing and will be used for both injection and hydraulic fluid supply functions. Sandvik will supply customized tubing for the umbilicals by the end of June 2017.

The Leviathan gas field is located in 1,645 meters of water, 125 kilometers (77 miles) west of Haifa. It is situated in the Levantine Basin, a rich hydrocarbon area, and is one of the world’s largest offshore gas finds of the decade.

“The Mediterranean is currently one of the most active areas in the world for the natural gas industry, and Leviathan is one of the world’s most important gas projects. This project will allow the production of natural gas in the Mediterranean area to grow significantly in these times of low oil prices, and the success of such fields will only strengthen the growth of the industry in the region,” said John Tokaruk, Global Product Manager, umbilical tubing, Sandvik. “Leviathan is an important development for Sandvik, and we look forward to expanding Israel’s supply of natural gas.”
