Eni’s Jangkrik FPU Ready to Sail

Tuesday 21 March 2017

Eni’s Jangkrik floating production unit (FPU) vessel is ready to set sail and make its way to the Italian player’s Muara Bakau block, off Indonesia.

The vessel, which was named on Tuesday at the Saipem Karimun yard in Indonesia by the country’s energy minister, Ignasius Jonan, will be located in the Kutei basin, in the Makassar Strait, where it will operate for the Jangkrik offshore complex fields.

“The FPU will now sail to its final destination where, once in position, will commence mooring and hook-up operations,” Eni said.

“It will be located in strategic position that will also allow the prompt development of nearby discoveries in a region rich of gas resources,” the company said.

The project foresees the first gas within three and half years from the sanctioning, according to Eni.

The newly built FPU has a gas processing and export capacity up to 450 million standard cubic feet per days, via ten production deep-water subsea wells that will be connected to the FPU.

The gas, once processed onboard the FPU, will then reach using a new dedicated 79 kilometers pipeline and a new onshore receiving facilities, the East Kalimantan transportation system and the Bontang gas liquefaction plant.

The Jangkrik fields are located on the Muara Bakau production sharing contract about 70 kilometres off East Kalimantan and reserves at the project have been put at up to 300 million barrels of oil equivalent of relatively lean gas.

Eni is the operator with a 55% stake of the Muara Bakau production sharing contract (PSC), together with Engie E&P with 33 % and PT. Saka Energi Muara Bakau with 11.6%.

The Jangkrik gas volumes will supply the local domestic market, the Indonesian LNG market as well as the LNG export market.

A consortium of companies led by Italy's Saipem won the turnkey contract for the FPU in 2014, beating out a joint venture between McDermott and Technip for the lucrative $1.1 billion contract.

The scope of the contract covers the engineering, procurement and fabrication of the FPU hull and topsides as well as the installation of a mooring system and the hook-up, commissioning and assistance for start-up.

The overall project management, engineering and procurement of the FPU project will be carried out in Jakarta, while the topsides will fabricated at Saipem's Karimun yard in Indonesia and the hull will be fabricated at Hyundai's shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.
