Aker BP Gains Volund Well Nod
Thursday 2 March 2017
Aker BP has gained consent from the safety authorities to drill an exploration well at the West Volund prospect, targeting more resources near its producing Volund field off Norway.
The Anglo-Norwegian operator will sink the 24/9-11S probe using 1987-built semi-submersible Transocean Arctic at a location about 7.5 kilometres west of the field’s subsea facilities that are tied back to the Alvheim floating production, storage and offloading vessel in the North Sea.
The well, which will be drilled in a water depth of 122 metres, aims to investigate hydrocarbon potential in an untapped formation and has an estimated duration of 28 days, though this could be extended with a possible sidetrack.
The prospect would be another potential tieback candidate to the Alvheim floater in the event of a discovery.
Volund, brought online in 2009, is producing via a subsea template with four horizontal wells tied back to the vessel and an additional template has subsequently been installed
