Carlyle Group subsidiary contracts services player for Romania’s next offshore field development

Carlyle Group subsidiary, Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG) has awarded the contract for the front end engineering and design (FEED) for two of its gas discoveries off Romania’s east coast to services player Xodus Group.

Under the contract, with an undisclosed value, Xodus will work on BSOG’s offshore and onshore facilities for the development of the Ana and Doina gas discoveries on the 15 Midia shallow-water block in the Black Sea.

“With this award we take a major step forward in delivering this offshore gas development in Romania’s Black Sea with expectations that we will reach final investment decision in 2017,” BSOG chief executive Mark Beacom said.

BSOG’s two blocks in the Black Sea, 13 Pelican and 15 Midia, cover almost 4200 square kilometres.

The company operates the blocks with a 65% interest on behalf of its partners Gas Plus International and Petro Ventures Europe.

The 1995-discovered Doina and 2007-discovered Ana gas fields are believed to hold 320 billion cubic feet of P50 contingent resources, according to BSOG.

“Both fields have been appraised and are currently being investigated for development,” the company said.

Xodus will work on the Midia gas development project, which consists of the design and construction of the offshore platforms for the production of gas from the discoveries, a gas transmission pipeline, 121 kilometres offshore and 18 kilometres onshore, the gas treatment plant located in the Vadu area and a 25 kilometres access pipeline connecting the plant to the Transgaz operated NTS.

Supermajor ExxonMobil operates the neighbouring 15 Media Deep and the prolific Neptun Deep field.
