Statoil Spuds Well Near Njord
Tuesday 16 August 2016
Statoil has kicked off drilling of an exploration well at the Njord North Flank 2 prospect targeting more resources near its Njord field off Norway.
The 6407/7-9S probe is being drilled by semi-submersible Songa Delta in a water depth of 323 metres in Statoil-operated production licence 107C in the Norwegian Sea.
It is targeting Middle and Lower Jurassic sandstone reservoirs of the Ile and Tilje formations in a fault-bounded structural closure, with a total depth in the Lower Jurassic Aare formation.
Partner Faroe Petroleum’s chief executive Graham Stewart said the well, if successful, could add resources that could be tied into the Njord Future project to extend the lifetime of the field, where production has been suspended for an upgrade of the structurally deficient Njord A platform.
Statoil operates the licence with a 20% stake, with partners Engie E&P (40%), Dea (30%), Faroe (7.5%) and VNG (2.5%).
Separately, Faroe said in a statement its planned acquisition of a 20% interest in the BP-operated Ula field off Norway from Dong E&P was “proceeding as planned” after expiry of a pre-emption period in which a partner could have bought the stake.
