Wintershall Targets Fresh Wildcat
Tuesday 9 August 2016
Wintershall has secured a permit to drill a further wildcat in the Norwegian North Sea after completing a previous probe in the same area.
The German explorer will use semi-submersible Borgland Dolphin to drill the latest well, 35/11-20B, in its operated production licence 248F, about 20 kilometres north-west of the Statoil-operated Fram field, after using the same rig to drill the 35/11-20A probe that has now been plugged.
It will be the fourth well to be drilled in the licence, which was last year carved out of nearby PL248 where Wintershall has previously come up dry with a probe at the Vikafjell North prospect.
Earlier this year, Wintershall drilled wells targeting the Orion and Antares prospects in PL248F for which results have yet to be disclosed.
Wintershall holds a 40% operating stake in the licence with partners Petoro and Origo Exploration on 40% and 20%, respectively.
