Eni Misses with Aurelia
Thursday 4 August 2016
Italian player Eni has failed to hit pay with its frontier wildcat at the Aurelia prospect in the Barents Sea.
The delayed 7222/1-1 well was originally due to be drilled in mid-May but was finally spudded a month late on 14 June using the Saipem-owned semi-submersible Scarabeo 8 in production licence 226.
Eni now said that it is in the process of completing the wildcat - the first exploration well in the production licence 226.
The well's was primarily targeting the Triassic Kobbe and Ladinian formations and the Permian Orn formations. Its secondary targets were in the Triassic Carnian-Snadd and Permian Roye formations.
"In the Kobbe formation hydrocarbon (wet gas) bearing sandstone has been encountered but with poor reservoir characteristics. Carnian-Snadd and Permian formations were water bearing," Eni said.
The well will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Eni operates the licence, with partners Dea E&P, Edison International and Point Resources.
