Scarabeo 5 Back in Action
Wednesday 3 August 2016
Statoil has reactivated formerly suspended rig Scarabeo 5 to carry out well plugging and workover work on a pair of fields off Norway.
The Saipem-owned unit had been sidelined since October last year when the Norwegian operator suspended its charter of the rig and subsequently extended the suspension several times until 1 August.
The semi-submersible will first perform permanent plugging of a well at the Kristin field in the Norwegian Sea before carrying out a workover of a disused well at the Snorre field in the North Sea with the aim of bringing it back into production.
Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority has now given its consent for the latter job in a water depth of 335 metres that is scheduled to be carried out in early August and has an estimated duration of 22 days.
