Filicudi in Lundin sights
Monday 6 June 2016
Swedish operator Lundin is gearing up to drill the Filicudi prospect to shore up resources for a possible development in the Loppa High area of the Barents Sea.
Filicudi lies in production licence 533, bordering the Lundin-operated licences containing the Alta and Gohta discoveries, as well as the Statoil-operated Johan Castberg discovery.
Lundin plans to use Ocean Rig's semi-submersible rig Leiv Eiriksson to drill well 7219/12-1, with a tentative spud date in September at the earliest, according to an application filed with Norwegian authorities.
The drilling location lies 190 kilometres from shore, about 30 kilometres north-west of the Alta discovery and about the same distance south-west of Johan Castberg.
The well has a target depth of 2500 metres with a primary reservoir target in Jurassic and Triassic rocks and a secondary Triassic target.
It also includes options for one sidetrack and up to three production tests, depending on the drilling results.
The drilling operation is set to take between 57 days and 123 days, depending on how many of the options are used.
The wildcat is part of a drilling campaign to firm up volumes for Alta and Gohta ahead of a development, with current estimates standing at between 216 million and 584 million barrels of oil equivalent.
