Two Additional SMST Cranes for Maersk’s Subsea Support Vessels

Tuesday 31 May 2016

SMST, specialist in design and construction of offshore equipment, has been awarded a contract for the delivery of two additional 100t Knuckle Boom Cranes for the four Subsea Support Vessels (SSVs) of Maersk Supply Service, being built by COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard. The delivery is a sequel to two previously ordered SMST Knuckle Boom Cranes via main contractor Huisman. In December 2014, Huisman secured the contract for the delivery of four 400t Hybrid Boom Cranes and two SMST Knuckle Boom Cranes on board the SSVs.

The two 100t Knuckle Boom Cranes with Active Heave Compensation will be installed on Maersk’s Subsea Support Vessels 3 and 4, Marin Teknikk design MT 6027, which are scheduled for delivery in Q1 and Q2 2017. The cranes are designed for a large range of deck, offshore and subsea operations up to 3000 meter water depth. The general concepts behind this type of crane lead to excellent subsea lifting capacity, a low center of gravity, minimal use of deck space, and limited power consumption. The design allows efficient installation and commissioning of the crane onboard the vessels of Maersk Supply Service. SMST’s heave compensation system also sets this crane apart. Due to the system’s fast response and accuracy, the vessel can perform subsea work in a large weather window.

The AHC Knuckle Boom Crane is part of a wide range of SMST offshore cranes. SMST can deliver a variety of crane types up to 150t. The cranes can be outfitted in different configurations: knuckle boom, telescopic boom, fixed boom, rail mounted and with 3D motion compensated module. An update with several modules and options is possible, enabling flexible application of the crane and your vessel.
