GDG Supports PGE Baltica with Baltica 1 Offshore Wind Farm Engineering

Monday 21 June 2021

GDG is delighted to continue cooperation with PGE Baltica as their geoscience advisor and engineering consultant on the Baltica 1 project, which is being developed by PGE Baltica in the Baltic Sea and when commissioned will contribute circa 1GW of clean renewable electricity to the Polish grid. This recent collaboration between Ireland based engineering consultancy, GDG, and the national Polish utility, PGE, comes after a successful partnership over the last number of years, where GDG previously provided the preliminary ground model, geotechnical and offshore design support on the Baltica 2 and 3 projects.

The scope of work for this recent commission includes ground modelling development support, survey management, and general engineering support in relation to the foundation and cable design. This contract marks another major milestone for both companies and the Baltica 1 project where we look forward to accelerating the development activities over the next year. A strength of GDG is their highly technical team which encompasses a number of world class Polish Engineers and Scientists that are familiar with the local conditions and regulations in the Baltic Sea.

Paul Doherty, Managing Director for GDG, noted that “We look forward to working with PGE Baltica again on yet another exciting offshore wind farm development in Polish waters. Over the past two years we have developed a strong working relationship with the progressive and dynamic development team at PGE Baltica and we look forward to continuing working together on this new site.”

The 896 MW Baltica 1 offshore wind project is PGE Baltica’s third concession area in the Baltic Sea, which is located about 80km from the shore. It is planned to be operational after 2030.

PGE Baltica is also developing the 1,498 MW Baltica 2 and the 1,048 MW Baltica 3 projects. First power from the wind farms is expected to flow in 2026.
